Why Support Hour Children?

At Hour Children, Love makes the difference!

Each year, Hour Children provides compassionate, comprehensive services to over 4,500 clients, including housing to almost 200 families. We provide transitional communal and permanent supportive housing, mental health services and case management, job training and mentoring. Our programs for children include a day care center, after school program, summer camp, teen group, and mentoring.

Believing that a strong family connection maximizes a child’s stability and a woman’s chances of success upon reentry, we work to nurture happy, healthy, and caring relationships between incarcerated mothers and their children. Hour Children runs the Family Services programs at the Bedford Hills and Taconic Correctional Facilities, where we provide visiting and transportation services for unaccompanied minors, enabling them and their mothers to spend substantial meaningful time together and parenting education and advocacy support. Hour Children also runs the day-to-day programming on the Nursery Unit at Bedford Hills.

Our values guide everything we do:

  • Every person has the capacity for change.
  • All human beings are worthy of dignity and respect.
  • We believe diversity makes us stronger and is critical for our growth.
  • One size does not fit all. We provide personalized services tailored to each individual we serve.
  • We foster trust with our community through accountability and responsibility.
  • Our commitment starts inside the prison system, providing hope, structure, and support.
